REPUBLICAN TRIFECTA There are 163 seats in the House (69% R) and 34 seats in the Senate (71% R). House members serve 2-year terms, limited to 4 terms and Senate members serve 4-year terms, limited to 2 terms. Elections occur in even years with all House seats and 1/2 of the Senate seats up every 2 years.

January 5, 2022 - May 20, 2022. Session limited to end May 30.
State Elected Officials
The Governor (R), SOS (R) and AG (R) are elected for 4-year terms in presidential election (leap) years. The Governor is limited to 2 terms and the SOS and AG have no term limits. The next election is in 2024.
State Supreme Court
There are 7 judges, appointed by the governor from a list compiled by the Missouri Appellate Judicial Commission and narrowed to 3 choices. From those 3 candidates, the governor appoints a new judge. Newly appointed judges stand for retention in the next general election occurring 1 to 3 years after they take office. If retained, they serve 12-year terms. Currently there are 3 judges initially appointed by Democratic governors and 4 by Republican governors. Vacancies are filled by the same procedure as above.

Senate seats (R) are up in 2022 and 2024. House seats (6R, 2D) are up in even years.
Redistricting Method/Info
Congressional district lines are drawn by the state legislature. These lines are subject to veto by the governor. Two distinct politician commissions are responsible for state legislative redistricting, one for the Senate and another for the House. For the Senate, the state committee of each major political party nominates 10 members to the commission, for a total of 20 nominees. From this pool, the governor selects 5 members per party, for a total of 10 commissioners. For the House, the congressional district committee of each major political party nominates 2 members per congressional district, for a total of 32 nominees. From this pool, the governor appoints 1 member per party per district, for a total of 16 commissioners. There are 8 congressional districts, 34 state senate and 163 state house districts.
