State Legislature
REPUBLICAN TRIFECTA There are 400 seats in the House (52% R) and 24 seats in the Senate (58% R). Both House and Senate members serve 2-year terms with no term limits. Elections occur in even years with all House and Senate seats up every 2 years.
State Legislative Term
January 5, 2022 - June 30, 2022. Session limited to 45 legislative days or to end July 1.
State Elected Officials
The Governor (R) is elected for a 2-year term in even years with no term limits. The next gubernatorial election is in 2022. The SOS (D) is elected by a joint session of the state legislature for a 2-year term with no term limits. The AG (R) is appointed by the governor with the approval of the NH Executive Council for a 4-year term with no term limits.
State Supreme Court
There are 5 judges, appointed directly by the governor without the use of a nominating commission. Nominees must be confirmed by the NH Executive Council, whose 5 members are chosen every 2 years in partisan elections. Judges serve for life with a mandatory retirement age of 70. 3 judges were appointed by a Republican governor and 2 by a Democratic governor. Vacancies are filled by an appointment by the governor.
US Representatives & Senators
Senate seats (D) are up in 2022 and 2026. House seats (2D) are up in even years.
Redistricting Method/Info
Both congressional and state legislative district lines are drawn by the state legislature. These lines are subject to veto by the governor. There are 2 congressional, 24 state senate and 204 state house districts. Some house districts elect multiple representatives.
