State Legislature
DEMOCRATIC TRIFECTA There are 60 seats in the House (62% D) and 30 seats in the Senate (60% D). House members serve 2-year terms and Senate members serve 4-year terms with no term limits. Elections occur in even years with all of the House and 1/2 Senate seats up every 2 years.
State Legislative Term
February 1, 2022 - March 7, 2022. Session limited to 160 calendar days in odd years and 35 in even.
State Elected Officials
The Governor (D) is elected for a 4-year term in midterm elections, limited to 8 years in office during any 12 year period. The SOS (D) and AG (D) are elected to 4-year terms in presidential election (leap) years; the SOS is limited to 8 years in office during any 12 year period and the AG has no term limits. The next gubernatorial election is in 2022 and the next election for the SOS and AG is in 2024.
State Supreme Court
There are 7 judges, selected through nonpartisan elections. They serve 6-year terms and must stand for re-election. Currently, all 7 judges were appointed by a Democratic governor. Vacancies are filled by appointment by the governor.
US Representatives & Senators
Senate seats (D) are up in 2022 and 2026. House seats (currently 1R, 4D) are up in even years. Oregon was apportioned a 6th seat in the US house after the 2020 census.
Redistricting Method/Info
Congressional and state legislative district lines are drawn by the state legislature. These lines may be vetoed by the governor. If the legislature is unable to approve state legislative district boundaries, the duty falls to the SOS. There are 6 congressional, 30 state senate and 60 state house districts since both new congressional and state maps were signed into law on 9/27/21.
