State Legislature
REPUBLICAN TRIFECTA There are 124 seats in the House (65% R) and 46 seats in the Senate (65% R). House members serve 2-year terms and Senate members serve 4-year terms with no term limits. Elections occur in even years with all House and Senate seats up every 2 years and all Senate seats up every 4 years (in presidential election (leap) years).
State Legislative Term
January 11, 2022 - May 12, 2022. Session limited to end 1st Thursday in June.
State Elected Officials
The Governor (R), SOS (R) and AG (R) are elected for a 4-year terms in midterm elections. The Governor is limited to 2 consecutive terms and the SOS and AG have no term limits. The next election is in 2022.
State Supreme Court
There are 5 judges, appointed by the state legislature. A commission submits a list of 3 names to the general assembly. The general assembly either chooses 1 of the 3 or rejects them all. They serve 10-year terms after which they are subject to re-election by the legislature. All 5 judges were appointed by the state legislature. Vacancies are filled by legislative appointment to serve the rest of the unexpired term.
