State Legislature
REPUBLICAN TRIFECTA There are 99 seats in the House (74% R) and 33 seats in the Senate (82% R). House members serve 2-year terms and Senate members serve 4-year terms with no term limits. Elections occur in even years with all House and 1/2 of the Senate seats up every 2 years.

January 11, 2022 - April 29, 2022. Session limited to 90 legislative days.
State Elected Officials
The Governor (R) is elected for a 4-year term in midterm elections and is limited to 2 consecutive terms. The SOS (R) is appointed to a 4-year term by the state legislature for a 4-year term with no term limits. The AG (R) is appointed by the Tennessee Supreme to an 8-year term with no term limits. The next gubernatorial election is in 2022.
State Supreme Court
There are 5 judges, appointed by the governor, who makes the initial judicial appointments to be confirmed by the state legislature. They serve 8-year terms and must stand for a retention election to continue to serve. There are currently 4 judges on the court, 3 appointed by Republican governors and one by a Democratic governor and one vacancy. Vacancies are filled by an appointment by the Governor.

Senate seats (R) are up in 2024 and 2026. House seats (7R and 2D) are up in even years.

Congressional and state legislative district lines are drawn by the state legislature. These lines are subject to veto by the governor. There are 9 congressional, 33 state senate and 99 state house districts.
