REPUBLICAN TRIFECTA There are 100 seats in the House of Delegates (78% R) and 34 seats in the Senate (68% R). House members serve 2-year terms and Senate members serve 4-year terms with no term limits. Elections occur in even years with all of the House seats and 1/2 of the Senate seats up every 2 years.

January 12, 2022 - March 12, 2022. Session limited to 60 calendar days.

The Governor (R), SOS (R) and AG (R) are elected for 4-year terms in presidential election (leap) years. The governor is limited to 2 consecutive terms and the SOS and AG have no term limits. The next election is in 2024.

There are 5 judges, elected in nonpartisan elections for 12-year terms and must run for re-election when their terms expire. Of the 5 current judges, 3 were initially appointed by a Republican governor. Vacancies are filled by appointment by the governor from a list of 2 to 5 applicants submitted by a commission to serve until the next general election.

Senate seat (D) up in 2024 and (R) in 2026. House seats (currently 3R) are up in even years. West Virginia lost a US House seat after the 2020 census so there will be 2 after redistricting.

Congressional and state legislative district lines are set by the state legislature. These lines are subject to veto by the governor. There are currently 3 congressional (reduced to 2 after redistricting), 17 state senate and 67 state house districts. Each senate district elects 2 state senators. Some state house districts elect multiple delegates.
